Official Seoul Fashion Week Metrocity insider.. Part 1

I attended my first Seoul Fashion Week ever and it was beyond amazing.  The week-long event took place from March 27-April 1, 2017.  I wasn’t sure what to expect since I’ve never actually attended one of the fashion trifecta events, i.e. New York, Paris, Milan.  I’ve been to the smaller scale fashion weeks in San Diego and  Honolulu, Hawaii, so I had mixed feelings of what the atmosphere would be.  Like any social savvy millenial would do, I took to the Internet to prepare myself and got instantly excited.

It was my first big fashion event after moving to Seoul and good thing because I was starting to get antsy for some good fashion inspiration.  The shows were all held at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza aka DDP (Line 2, 4, 5 stop Dongdaemun Cultural Center, exit 1).  It’s this uber cool venue that looks like a spaceship landed in the middle of Seoul.  So futuristic, so chic, the perfect backdrop for selfies, ootd’s, and the hyped F/W 2017 Hera Seoul Fashion Week.  I should add here that it was the most Instagram tagged location in Korea in 2015 created by renowned architect Zaha Hadid.

{the lacey details}

To briefly talk about what I wore, the dress is from a Korean boutique.. no name, no tag, one size fits all.  I got it in one of the Dongdaemun shops and it looks reminiscent of Free People.  The boots are from Nordstrom – Catherine Malandrino, clutch Kate Spade, and silver metallic jacket from Forever 21.  I had some people questioning my footwear and to be honest.. I didn’t shave my legs.. I also wanted comfort and warmth and that overruled any other fashion decision when I needed to be out the door and on my way.  Plus, I couldn’t bear to open up another shoe box and hate the way everything looked.. I didn’t realize I had such a throwing arm till I couldn’t find the right shoe to wear..

Enough ramblings and onto my first show, Metrocity.  Originally launched in Firenze, Italy, with muses like Milla Jovovich, Adriana Lima, and Jessica Alba supporting the brand, this year’s muse was Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.  She’s a goddess in real life by the way.. and was heavily guarded by a small Korean entourage.

Upon arrival to the venue with my good friend Brian Joo, who happens to be a famous KPop star, the paparazzi photos were insane.  I felt like I just looked awkward in about 98% of the photos.. I’m giving myself the 2% in hopes some of my modeling confidence kicked in.

{the synopsis}

The attendance probably included every major Korean model, singer, actor/actresses under the sun because the camera flashes were nonstop until the shows start.  I was incredibly excited to see a show because I’m always modeling in them (not a humble brag), but I still had the anxiety as if I were about to open for the stylist.  The energy of the venue was amazing.. it’s massive and holds probably a few hundred people.

The Metrocity show did not disappoint, many (faux?) fur stole’s graced the runway in all shades, looser fit clothing with a bit of sequin for flare, while the models walked to foggy smoke.  The colors were mainly toned down with velvets and big puffy sleeves and trending fishnets.  A child model opened the show and she killed it.  She seems to be a huge icon to the brand this season and she was ridiculously adorable.  For the show’s finale, see the video below..

I’m already clearing my calendar for the Metrocity Spring/Summer October 2017 shows.
