Soulpot Studio, real fashion feels.. Part II

My second day at the iconic Dongdaemun Design Plaza was probably one of the most memorable… it was pretty quiet outside of the art halls because the sky was gloomy and rain was starting to trickle.  I find that during the week in the middle of the afternoon, the dedicated fashion seekers are more about the fashion designers than the street wear going on outside.  Don’t get me wrong, there was still some good WTF outfits and equally inspiring ones to catch glimpses of, but on a much smaller scale.

I rushed over from the apartment to DDP wearing my Dolce Vita heels that I’m pretty sure weren’t meant to run in.  I put some mileage in them that day because I ran to the train station, then upon arrival, had to grab the ticket before the show started and I had no clue where to go.. I’m kinda bad at directions and don’t have faith in reading mapped diagrams of places I don’t frequent often. Anxiety was high because I was solely running on espresso..

I opted for a more casual clean chic look which resonated, “I’m here for fashion week, I mean business, and then I’m out” feel.. Also, I wanted to incorporate my Grandma’s vintage Chanel bag because it’s bright red with gold details that needed to be taken out of its duster to have a moment to shine.

The top is a lacey number by Cinq a Sept with a mock turtleneck and long enough for me to tuck in.  I have an awkwardly long torso, so this was a bonus for me.  Jeans are by Stradivarius to give it a more tough girl look..  I think I achieved my goal for the day of looking like I wasn’t trying too hard to put an outfit together.. effortlessly stylish.

{and the show begins}

The next show up on the list was Soulpot Studio with Su Jinn Kim.  So let me preface that before attending Seoul Fashion Week, I did my research on the various designers that I felt would fit my style, readers, and overall aesthetic.  When I read about Su Jinn and all her accomplishments I was completely blown away.  The self taught designer and veteran to SFW reaches deep into emotion to bring her visions to life.

The clothing was very well thought out.  Darker muted colors that had the deconstructed feel and pops of orange which seemed to be the pantone color for Seoul.  I mean this is the Fall/Winter showcase.  I really loved her use of velvet pants that looked like thigh high boots were connected to shorts on the models. I instantly felt the need to have a few pairs in my arsenal of clothing.  The show was like looking into her sweet soul.. ironic since her brand is called Soulpot.

For the finale, the back wall displayed words of inspiration and overall mantras we should be living as humans.  Each phrase that popped up made me have all the feels and really made you connect with the brand Su Jinn, I felt was trying to convey through her clothing.  The lights were dimmed at this point and I was glad because I could feel my eyes swell up.. AT A FASHION SHOW.. what was WRONG with me?!  It was then, that I GOT it.  Often people feel that clothing is just something we wear.. true.  But others take it to show their inner thoughts and expressions.. Half the models came out wearing hoodies over the designers creation for the finale.  Almost to make you focus on the intensity of everything you just witnessed.

At the end of the show I had to personally meet the designer.. after the way I felt, I had to shake her hand and tell her how wonderful she did.  What a great connection it was to meet Su Jinn.. She is certainly someone to watch and see where she goes with Soulpot Studio!

Meanwhile, onto the next show.. Let’s hope the waterworks don’t make a come back..
