I’ve been having these over indulgent moments when I find something that is good for you, I give myself a pretty hefty serving of it.. like how much is too much or how much is an ideal amount? Should I keep it in my purse a la Queen Bey herself and hot sauce? Serious question, would it be weird if I stashed turmeric in my bag and sprinkled it on.. well, everything??
I started using turmeric in soups, wildly throwing it in the pot as if the more I put in, the better my whole body would feel and somehow it was this fountain of youth.. Not all necessary nor true. Turns out, if in the powder form, a therapeutic dosage is between 1-10 grams per day. I now put a sprinkle on practically everything I eat. It doesn’t have a strong flavor to me, so a few dashes on my meals didn’t seem like a bad idea. Perhaps a sprinkle in your daily espresso??
Onto the benefits… I’m in no way a doctor, I just like to do my own personal thorough research when adding anything new to my diet. I want to be sure whatever it is I’m putting into my body is actually going to help if I’m going out of my way to incorporate it into my eating habits. So, if you find out your body decides to reject turmeric, that is in no way my doing.. we good?
Turmeric helps keep inflammation down.. Sometimes I feel like my whole body is just inflamed from food, alcohol, life.. So when I read turmeric is an anti-inflammatory, I signed up right away. Inflammation is also linked to cancer, arthritis, psoriasis, eczema, and a slew of other issues. These were just my personal concerns that perked my eyes up.
Not only does turmeric help put you in a better mood, but it’s also linked to helping with achy joints.. With the amount of running I do, my knees could use all the extra lovin’ they can get. There are so many crazy herbs and powders I’ve never heard of, but turmeric is easy to get at the local grocery store; and doesn’t require a lot of extra work when crafting up a recipe in the kitchen. Just put some turmeric on it.
