New bird on the block gives you the healthiest buzz! San Diego, CA..

I recently got back from San Diego because I wanted to start 2019 with a little sunshine before heading back to Korea.  I’m never there for a long time, but always there for a good time and I ALWAYS have a list a mile long of places to have a meal.  I made a point to stop at Parakeet Cafe at their newest location in Little Italy (downtown San Diego for the non-locals).

{parakeet behind the scenes}

I met with Carol and her husband and they are the NICEST people on the planet.. They own the new instagrammable cafe and take diligent care of every single menu item.. This place is for those that are health conscious, have food allergy diets, or want a place to sip a turmeric latte and get a little work done and if we are being real, snap a few selfies in the process.

Upon walking in, the cafe is light and airy and filled with parakeet wallpaper with the caaauuutest neon sign.  I found my desired spot that would garner the best lighting (because duh) and incorporate the headliner in the joint.. that blue neon I needed splattered in my picture.  This place isn’t just about appearances, but also the menu is just undeniably delicious.

{menu details  – what you NEED to try}

I wanted one of everything on the menu, because let’s be real, I’m ALWAYS thinking about food and my STOMACH is bigger than my eyes.. New Year, New Me.. I mean right?  I didn’t feel guilty about anything I consumed at that table..  one, because the ingredients are all good for you and two, I needed to taste test to make sure I could report back to all you babes the “must order” items.. Your personal taste tester if you will…

{millennial food…}

To Eat:

  1. Organic Greens Scrambled Eggs – kale, asparagus, green beans, avocado, labneh, toast salsa verde.
  2. Avocado (Toast) (vegan) – pickled mustard, serrano peppers, crunchy mung beans, cilantro, pumpkin seeds, beet spirals.
  3. Raw Kale Salad – cucumbers, avocado, red onion, arugula, watercress, heirloom tomatoes, grapefruit, hemp, lemon basil dressing.
  4. Cacao Waffle (gluten free) – coconut yogurt, organic fresh berries, banana, chia, cinnamon, coconut sugar.

Everything was around the $10 mark and a small price to pay for a happy tummy filled with some of the most well thought out recipe concoctions.. My favorite?? Gahhh, it’s like asking your favorite puppy you’ve ever seen in life.. they’re all so good.. I would 100% re-order the raw kale salad and cacao waffle without question – I’m a sucker for grapefruit and chocolate with pretty flowers.

To drink:

  1. Moon Milk – ashwagandha, reishi, turmeric, cardamon, ginger, lavender honey.
  2. Flat Black – activated charcoal, homemade lavender honey, milk.
  3. Homemade Chai Latte – ummm, chai.

The Adaptogenic drink (#1) will run you $9 while the signature sips will cost you $5.

For those unfamiliar (I’ll admit, I still have much to learn about adaptogenic drinks) ashwagandha can help lower blood sugar levels, reduce cortisol, boost brain function and help fight symptoms of anxiety and depression.. who doesn’t want to feel happy, especially in January when we are all about bettering ourselves and in need of a mood lifter?!  And for those that know me, turmeric is a massive part of my diet.  See my golden dust dedicated post here.

ANDOMYEFFINGGAWD… hands down the best charcoal latte I’ve legit ever had.  Sure everyone wants to snap a cute photo of their BLACK drinkety drink.. But um, how did it taste?  So I told Carol I needed deets on why hers was so freaking good.  Homemade lavender honey.. ummmm.. please bottle that $hit up and gimme all of it.. k thanks. Seriously, I’ve never had a better tasting charcoal latte before aka Flat Black.

Another tip for those unfamiliar, activated charcoal can help with clearing up toxins in the kidneys, intestinal gas, and also helps to whiten teeth.. better than your typical cup of coffee!

If you find yourself looking for a cafe that needs to hit all the checkmarks

  • ridiculously tasty food
  • ridiculously delicious drinks
  • prettiest decor to hang that’s perfect for people watching, because let’s be real, Little Italy has some good entertainment
  • food allergy diet – treat yo’self..
  • swag to take home – because pink
  • more than enough space for you and your gang

Then be sure to take a swerve and stop in at Parakeet Cafe.

Located at 1680 India St, San Diego, CA.  Psst… they also have a La Jolla location for those up north.  You heard it from a little bird..
