Shopping your own closet, saving the Earth, and Poshmark…

I’ve been a little MIA from loads of travel lately.. but I’m right back where I belong in the virtual world.  I got to thinking about events and planning and clothing purchases.  I don’t have the best method of purchasing clothing if you ask my credit card, but it works for my thought process.  Also, living abroad doesn’t make my situation any easier when factoring shipping times.  I buy clothes, even if it doesn’t make sense, i.e. gowns when I’m not yet invited to a party, winter jackets in the summer, bikinis when it’s December.  I buy these pieces because I anticipate needing the article of clothing in the future and won’t have to hunt down online shops or roam the mall for what I need at the eleventh hour.  Too many times have I been burned by looking for something, even weeks in advance to no avail and I’m stuck with nothing.  Instead I “shop my closet”.  I have a dedicated area where I have all my new clothing, so when an event, especially last minute comes up, I already have something that will work!

{behind the scenes}

I had an event to attend, and long story short, got all glamified and walked out the door, literally in the car and realized we weren’t going to make the event long enough for the trek out to the location with Friday evening traffic.  Ummmm, but I did my makeup AND hair.  Oh well, couldn’t waste good lighting.  I’m one of those people that will wear an outfit and then take pictures, not take a bunch of pictures in one day of 10 different outfits and then sprinkle them around.  My brain doesn’t creatively work that fast with my ensembles.  There’s jewelry, bags, shoes, if I had to do that with more than 2 outfits I’d burn myself out.  BUT if you’re a full time blogger, I can see how using your photographer to the maximum extent possible would be more lucrative and timesaving.  As a model, this sometimes is the case when building your book or updating pictures, so I totally know that life as well, I just don’t want to live it every day.  So when you see my pictures, it’s real life.. Luckily, my insta-husband is my photog and one outfit at a time for him is more than enough in a day so it’s a win-win situation.

{the dress}

The dress hails from Poshmark… yes, before moving, I religiously shopped and sold on Poshmark. I still do when I know I’m headed back to the states.  I’ll open up my closet and ship out pieces as they sell.  Peep the closet here.. also, I just reopened it so make your purchases before I close it again on May 25th.  The fabulous people on Poshmark recently featured me on their IG and website and I couldn’t have been more grateful!!  Seriously some of my most prized finds are from the fashion site!  It really is a great way to help our environment too..  Did you know fashion literally kills the Earth??  I’m not trying to go full on hippie here, but it’s not garbage, but excess fashion scraps and clothing clogging up our landfills.  So, if I’m able to help our great mother nature even a little, this is a good way to buy something from someone that was pre-loved and wants to be loved again.. in many times, for a fraction of the price!  Or you should at least donate your clothes to a charity of choice or Goodwill.  It’s too easy to recycle.. plus there are tax benefits for those boss babes out there looking for write off’s.

Back to the juicy details.. This dress reminds me of something from the Matrix but not in a weird cosplay way.  The missed event called for red and black and so pairing up my LBD with my vintage Chanel bag was curated for the night.  The velvet piece is actually made by Eva Mendes and she knows what she’s doing.  Not sure what season it was originally purchased, but I didn’t care, it’s a timeless piece with a cool factor built in.  The shoes hinted of black and gold tying everything together with an effortless look.

{takeaway}

Shop for events you typically attend.  Don’t buy couture gown if you’ve never been invited to an event that calls for some ridiculously over priced fabric, but if you attend events and you find a dress you can’t live without, by all means, purchase it and when the future event rolls around, make a point to wear it..  Save the environment and check Poshmark, you might find “the one”.  Way less stressful than barraging the local shopping center or needing to express ship garments.
