When you time travel and catch a fashion show by R. Shemiste.. FW17.. Part IV

My last official show for Seoul Fashion Week FW 2017 and it’s bittersweet.  It was just a matter of a few weeks leading up to the event that I wasn’t even sure I could make it and I’m so beyond glad I did!  Such a huge highlight upon moving to Korea with my love for fashion..  I felt right in my element after moving 6,062 miles (exact because I checked and I’m OCD) from home across a huge ocean.. literally halfway around the world across the international dateline.  So a little fun fact, Korea is a day ahead for my US friends.. I’m basically living in the future.  Hashtag time travel.

{the outfit}

For my last outfit change, I wanted to wear something I wouldn’t have probably worn 6 months ago.  That’s fashion for you right?  Always evolving and grabbing your attention in ways you wouldn’t think it would.  Since my previous outfits were more on the higher end side, I wanted to have fun with “fast fashion”.  My outfit was from Forever 21 (coat, dress, glasses similar here, here, and here), plain white T from Zara (similar here), fishnets from Frederick’s of Hollywood, wedge booties from Aldo, and my ysl Saint Laurent envelope bag I turned into a clutch.

It was also my way of bringing a little pop of color since my other outfits were safely sticking to black and white.  Also, I want to highlight my little buttons from Olive and Oliver in Hawaii, gifted to me by one of my bff’s.. a little aloha goes a long way and I have a love for pineapples.  Fitting since this website is called “aloha brigitte”.  Kind of have an updated look to a grandma who is also a librarian and hasn’t retired yet, but still fashionable.  But the coat slinging gives it a 2017 edge.  Thoughts?

{the show}

My final show is R. Shemiste.  Their fashion base is the word “alchemy” by creating something from scratch into something beautiful, wearable, and memorable.  The show began with video images of police filled streets what appears to be police in riot gear in a Spanish speaking country pushing their way through a crowd.. really hits you in the heart with all the crap our current world is going through right now.  Here we are about to watch some models strut the runway and I’m getting emotional watching the footage displayed on 30 x 30 feet walls.. I’m wondering if the designer was trying to put the audience in a state of vulnerability.  I can respect that..

The ongoing trend was more coat slinging, long drapey fabrics, stripes and pops of red throughout the show.  It’s still chilly here in Seoul so some models had long scarves with “R. Shemiste” embellished on the front down their ensemble along with hats.. most everyone had on a hat (ball/boat caps).

The overall look was “business professional with ultimate swag”.  Kind of an oxymoron, but it worked for the runway.  I could tell this was a seasoned designer based on the crowd attendance and well thought out looks each model strutted on the catwalk along with Princess Nokia’s song “Tomboy” blaring.. if you’ve never heard of the song, the bridge goes “with my little titties and my phat belly” over and over.. I couldn’t help but smile and watch the crowd lip sing to the lyrics.

The finale walk..

This was a fun show to end on as I felt a little more gangster afterward and ready to embrace the world.. R. Shemiste has been featured in the Mercedes Benz NY and Tokyo fashion weeks – Asia collections and I imagine will be here to stay because the brand projects confidence I dig.  Really looking forward to Seoul Fashion Week SS17 in October!
